What kinds of social media apps do you think you might use in your library? If you use some already, what ideas did you get for making better use of them?
Our readers like getting suggestions about what to read next. So tools like Shelfari are high on the list of possible apps to use in 2014. What an easy and relatively quick method for sharing booklists online.
We also have some teens that are not shy about being in front of cameras and enjoy being creative. I think they will love the combination of Animoto and YouTube perhaps next summer when they are not in the middle of school year activities.

A library video on YouTube that teaches you how to do something
Accessing Consumer Reports from home - Lafayette Public Library
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppV6h85lnII
Consumer Reports is a popular magazine at our library especially the annual Auto issue and the holiday gift buying guide. With online access through EBSCOHost, we are not limited to one reader at a time borrowing the paper issue. Missing issues are no longer a problem either.
Lafayette Public Library shows their users how to search for articles and reviews and also how to find and "browse" a specific issue.

Two library pinterest boards and why I would use them at my library
http://www.pinterest.com/hibrad/eccentric-libraries/
Cool ideas for decorating around the library. Quirky furniture and shelving photos.
http://www.pinterest.com/pinlibraryofmz/adult-craft-programs-your-library/
Craft ideas for children are easy to find but good ones for adults that don't take hours and hours to complete are more challenging. There are many that would be fun to do especially once the holidays were over and the winter blahs set in.

What are four kinds of things libraries are doing with Facebook?
1. Hide clues for a QR Code Scavenger Hunt.
2. Hold an online book discussion.
3. Ask their Facebook (FB) community for help identifying people in, dates of, and locations in unlabeled historical photos.
4. Post upcoming library events and photos

Hello and Welcome
Hello from Melinda and welcome to my first blog. I read more than I write so this will be a good opportunity for me to try putting my thoughts down on paper (or screen.) My two golden retrievers make typing tricky as they like to put their paws on my keyboard! Guess they think playtime is all the time!
